Job Description

The Vision Mixer crafts a programme from the Studio Director's vision and the Producers’ rundown by cutting live and recorded programmes using a variety of transition methods and multi-sources, cameras, servers, outsourcers, server…etc.

Responsible for all areas of the production, including live rolling news, outside broadcasts and feature programmes. The Vision Mixer Operator operates a large and complex piece of gallery equipment and has a strong technical understating on the workings of television equipment. Working in a fast-paced Breaking News channel, you will need to be switched at speed, accurately and be always alerted for 24/7 breaking news environments, complex setups will need to be recalled, understood and at times to help built from scratch.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a large and complex Vision Mixer desk. Cutting between sources as directed or independently if asked to by the director.
  • The ability to act calmly under very real pressure to deliver a clean output.
  • Using the Vision Mixer desk to optimize the output's strengths. Control of inserts to in-vision monitors and a large video wall.
  • You may be asked to deputise for the Studio Director in their absence.
  • Creation of special effects such as multiple boxed pictures, via the Vision Mixer desk or other machinery.
  • Knowledge of how the Vision Mixer desk works and all television equipment.
  • Perform functionality checks on Vision Mixer desk.
  • Ability to work in different shift pattern that covers 24 hours rota.
Key Skills, Experience and Education
  • BA in media related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar capacity at a large channel, gaining a wide experience of vision mixing on a number of different production formats.
  • Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and good in English.
  • Proven commitment to making innovative television news.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to a vision-mixing product and obtain the highest quality output.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent programe style.
  • Proactive approach committed to continuous improvement and self-motivated.
  • An effective communicator.
  • The ability to anticipate and react quickly and to use your initiative in many situations arising from this type of production.
  • In depth knowledge of vision mixing software and equipment.
  • Should ideally be familiar with Grass Valley mixers and DVE operation.
  • High levels of concentration to deliver a smooth production under high work pressure.
