Job Description:

The Washington Bureau Studio Engineer works closely with the other members of staff within the Washington Bureau to ensure that high quality proactive maintenance and reactive support is provided for the Broadcast Systems on which Sky News Arabia’s business depends.

In this role the engineer will take responsibility for the day to day support of the broadcast/IT and digital production systems and equipment both within the facility and outside in the field to ensure the output is both professional and technical. As the Bureau Studio Engineer, you will act as the 1st and 2nd line support for all aspects of IT/Broadcast and Production with the ability to efficiently overcome any issues to ensure the permanent Video/Audio, and communication connectivity between Washington Bureau and SNA Headquarter in Abu Dhabi.

You will also be responsible for supporting other sister companies of Sky News Arabia operating from Washington Bureau for their productions. You will have previous experience of working as part of a team, within a fast paced environment and have a flexible and pro-active attitude.

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing technical advice, guidance and expertise on the state of satellite trucks and fly-away

  • Coordinating properly with the relevant parties to ensure that systems are fully operational before tuning to live coverage.

  • Providing 24/7 support to the systems and services both in the field and inside the studio.

  • Conduct in-depth root cause analysis and fault finding at the earliest possible opportunity, ensuring that all issues are logged and reported to high standards.

  • Provide L1 IT Support including Desktops, Laptops, Printers and any systems Related issues that include Email, internet and IMI corporate systems.

  • Ability to setup & install multiple camera Studio , audio and lighting setup.

  • Different operational roles associated with studio productions as and when necessary.

  • Day-today management of Down The Line studio (DTL) and it’s operations.

  • Direct multiple cameras in the field and overseas the full production from start to finish.

  • Carrying out planning for large, diarized News events.

  • Coordinate with SNA headquarter in AD to highlight IT/technical and logistical requirements for future events and breaking news stories.

  • Perform routine & periodic maintenance tasks recommended by HQ engineering.

  • Respond to operational/Technical issues promptly and provide quick solution or workaround Ability to Resolve any Hardware issues and liaise with suppliers for the replacement of faulty hardware.

  • Planning and Implementing change at approved time windows.

  • Ensure all documentation and configurations are kept up to date.

  • Ensure that all new services go through the handover process and are "fit for purpose".

  • Manage and Monitor all systems within the broadcast environment.

  • Manage third party suppliers, chases for updates, manage products, TAC cases and service SLAs.

  • Shift/on-Call requirement within the role.

Key Skills, Experience and Education:
  • Experience in newsgathering operations / satellite field operations is required.

  • Familiar with video/audio streaming and bonding equipment.

  • Familiar with broadcast & studio systems operations and maintenance from contribution through to distribution.

  • Good understanding of IT Support Tasks.

  • Capable of working for long hours and travelling at short notice.

  • General understanding of IT server-Netwrok concepts and setup.

  • Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills.

  • Full understanding of production techniques including timing cameras for synchronous switching.

  • Ability to work in different operational roles in studio productions.

  • Experience in cabling and installation of studio & broadcast equipment.

  • Fully conversant with all audio and video standards from Analogue through to HD.

  • Capable of setting up Communications for live broadcast in the field.

  • Have good understanding of computers and networking.

  • Proficient with both Windows and MAC.

  • Good knowledge of Visio, Excel and PowerPoint. Auto CAD experience would be beneficial.

  • Understanding of editing suite set ups.

  • Understanding of International Customs and Duties for shipping and travelling with equipment such as a CARNET or Load Lists.

  • Fluent in both written and spoken Arabic and good knowledge of English.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience.
