Job Description: We are looking for a Senior Assignment Editor to run the day-to-day operation of our breaking news News desk. As the ideal candidate, you will have strong editorial judgment and knowledge of News affairs based on extensive journalistic experience and a thorough understanding of the processes and principles of Journalism. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to make sound editorial decisions under pressure to identify, prioritize, and interpret the day's key stories. Working closely with our Bureau and other teams. You will ensure stories are delivered first - on air and on the website to the highest editorial standards. You will be the key point of contact for the news gathering teams, Editors, and Reporters, ensuring all requirements are met for the teams in the field.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Driving the highest level of journalism on stories across all platforms.
  • Working closely with the Bureaus, Planning desks and Assignment Journalists to ensure the demands of output are being met.
  • Understanding the demands of the whole news gathering team and staying abreast of the editorial priorities and developments of breaking news as well as ensuring content is relevant to Sky News Arabia’s target audience.
  • Ensuring the highest standards of quality for the channel's content and style.
  • Helps planning and co-ordinate the news desk diary.
  • May be required to travel across the Middle East, North Africa and internationally to lead teams on large news stories.
 

 

Key Skills, Experience and Educational:
  • Extensive experience working in television news at a senior level, including solid experience of all aspects of television news production.
  • Possess strong editorial judgment.
  • Previous experience working in a large national or international broadcast news channel.
  • A strong understanding of online media and the ability to coordinate and collaborate with teams generating digital content.
  • Experience working collaboratively with remote teams.
  • Knowledge across a broad range of journalistic interests which include social affairs, international politics, public policy, world business and economic affairs, science and the arts.
  • Good knowledge of broadcasting technology including satellite, I News and editing systems.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken Arabic and English.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience is required.
  • BA in journalism or other related social science major.
