Job Description:

Working closely with Senior Executive Producer - Radio, Multimedia Journalist/Presenter's role is to oversee the daily running of Sky News Arabia's radio output which is updated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will be required to write, record/present live radio news and packages compiled from wire service, reporters, and correspondents. As the main point of audio production, Multimedia Journalist/Presenter is required to ensure SNA audio output is clear, correct, concise, complete, and consistent; to make it say what it means, and mean what it says. You will be responsible for making sure each story has all the details that are required, you will ensure it is crisp and check it meets Sky News Arabia's editorial guidelines and values are adhered to.

Radio Multimedia Journalist/Presenter is required to produce stories, reports, packages and conduct live/recorded interviews stressing professional qualities. Can also deputize for Radio Editor if needed.

Radio Multimedia Journalist/Presenter will also be expected to ensure that the output flows, that it is sensible, fair, and accurate, and that any legal problems have been addressed as well as focusing on getting the details right while working under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will be a team player with excellent, broad general knowledge, esp. about the Middle East region, being required to work in a shift pattern (weekdays and weekends) and possible nights due to the nature of Sky News Arabia's 24 hour news coverage across all platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring the audio news output is up to date, accurate and well-produced and presented on air.
  • Checking text and audio to ensure it is well written for the radio, logically structured and in the right style for the intended audience.
  • Presenting radio bulletins and newsreels live on air, conducting interviews and recording audio material for broadcast.
  • Editing audio material to the required durations and editorial suitability.
  • Ensuring adherence to editorial policy and targets through initiating ideas and producing audio news compiled from various sources.
  • Ensuring the audio output is in line with the channel style.
  • Being alert to any potential problems in the audio ready for broadcast and discussing them with the Editor.
  • Composing headlines and intros to audio.
  • Compiling radio news bulletins, newsreels and programs running orders and produce it on air.
  • Identifying areas for improvement on the site and instigate changes.
Key Skills, Experience and Education:
  • Extremely fast, accurate, resourceful, and unflappable to cope with a relentless output flow.
  • A flexible, adaptable attitude is essential, to cope with varied work, last-minute requests and ever-changing technological issues.
  • Excellent command of Arabic with a love and feel for the language as well as very good English.
  • Excellent broadcast voice and good experience with audio recording and editing.
  • Excellent audio production and delivery style and editorial skills with attention to detail; and a sense of style.
  • The right candidate must have a wealth of experience in news environments and be proficient in quickly knocking stories into shape.
  • Broad general knowledge for spotting factual errors as well as good critical thinking skills in order to recognise inconsistencies or vagaries.
  • Interpersonal skills for dealing with editorial and technical teams.
  • Ability to establish priorities and balance a desire for perfection with the necessity to follow deadlines.
  • Familiarity with a range of radio broadcasting environments.
  • An inquisitive mind with high levels of concentration.
  • Degree in journalism, Arabic language, or any other relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of journalism of which 3 in radio.
