Job Description:

The primary responsibility of the Library Archive and Content Researcher is to serve as an information centre for the newsroom by enhancing and archiving all material for future reference needs.

The Archive and Content Researcher's job is to archive, log, retrieve and distribute video material for the news channel. You will work in a flexible multi-media environment and will be expected to help with ingest and/or play-out of video sources. You will be expected to become adept in using a variety of server technologies to create, maintain and update digital libraries.

As a librarian, you will be responsible for the ongoing management of media assets across the Newsroom Video Production system, ensuring that media is available across the newsroom, including the enforcement of content rights management if required. Shift pattern, including nights to accommodate a rolling 20-24 hours news channel. A passionate for news and current affairs, and an enthusiast in journalism.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Clipping, scanning, classifying, cataloguing, indexing and coding of news stories and other broadcast materials that are being sourced and manipulated internally as well as externally for the channel.
  • Sourcing copyright material for the channel and managing the stills library.
  • Prepare shot lists and assign appropriate metadata.
  • Liaising with content creation and content delivery teams to ensure the accurate retrieval of archive material in a timely manner.
  • Liaising with other news agencies and other video suppliers to source relevant footage for the various digital platforms.
  • Thorough understanding of preservation and handling of file-based media using DAM system.
  • Enhances both text and non‐text elements, prioritizing this work based upon the current and future needs of the organization.
  • Participates in special projects, including research for investigative reports, creation of databases for use by program producers and other initiatives that call upon NOC resources.
  • Keeping abreast of the news agenda and maintaining an understanding of ongoing events in order to ensure that it can adequately manage media assets on the Newsroom Video Production system.
  • Responsibility for all incoming media into the archive domain from Agencies and SNA Reporters is treated with due care and is processed correctly with all associated metadata and is stored correctly for repurposing or sale. 
  • Details and understanding of archiving processes, metadata and footage rights.
  • The ability to assist editorial teams with operational queries, including the ability to effectively browse content within the newsroom.
Key Skills, Experience and Education:
  • Degree equivalent in Librarianship or Information Management is desirable. BA in media or communication is an advantage.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in library and cataloguing digital collections.
  • Fluency in Arabic + Good in English (speaking & writing). Third language is a plus.
  • An interest in news and current affairs within the middle east and internationally.
  • Good general knowledge; accuracy in spelling and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and forward planning skills with the ability to priorities/meet deadlines and ensure that production and transmission deadlines are met.
  • Self-motivation coupled with strong communication and interpersonal skills required to build productive relationships with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Should be proficient in the use of the research production system and newsroom computer systems.
  • Processing of rushes content into the archive storage adhering policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and proven ability to work without supervision.
  • Candidate may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
