Job Description
The archive and content researcher's job is to archive, log, retrieve and distribute video material for the news channel. You will work in an extremely fast paced, 24/7 flexible multi-media environment and will be expected to help with ingest and/or play-out of video sources. You will be expected to become adept in using a variety of server technologies to create, maintain and update digital libraries.
Key Responsibilities
  • Clipping, scanning, classifying, cataloging, indexing and coding of news stories and other broadcast materials that are being sourced and manipulated internally as well as externally for the channel.
  • Working on an extremely fast paced, 24/7 flexible multi-media environment and help with ingest and/or play-out of video sources.

  • Sourcing copyright material for the channel.

  • Managing the stills library.

  • Prepare shot lists and assign appropriate metadata.

  • Retrieving story information on demand from the newsroom content creation and delivery teams as well as performing these tasks individually.

  • Researching, retrieving and disseminating information from the library archiving system in response from requests from the editorial team and other production teams.

  • Liaising with content creation and content delivery teams to ensure the accurate retrieval of archive material in a timely manner.

  • Liaising with other news agencies and other video suppliers to source relevant footage for the various digital platforms.

  • Working with multi-media and multi-functional technical areas to create, maintain, ingest and update digital library, using different VTRs.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premier Pro and Final Cut Pro.

  • Thorough understanding of preservation and handling of file-based media using DAM system.

 

Key Skills, Experience and Education
  • At least 3 years’ experience.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Librarianship or Information management is desirable.

  • Demonstrable experience of working in Media Management preferably gained within a broadcast environment0

  • An interest in news and current affairs within the middle east and internationally.

  • Good general knowledge; accuracy in spelling and attention to detail.

  • Excellent organisational and forward planning skills with the ability to prioritise/meet deadlines and ensure that production and transmission deadlines are met.

  • Self-motivation coupled with strong communication and interpersonal skills required to build productive relationships with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrable drive and passion for the media industry.

  • Should be proficient in the use of the research production system and newsroom computer systems.

  • Can work effectively and independently in spreadsheet and database software needed to facilitate research.

  • Effectively use the Internet to locate and research reliable resource websites and maintain bookmarks.

  • BA in media or communication is an advantage.

  • Good knowledge of both spoken and written Arabic and English. Good spoken knowledge of a third language is a plus.
